SSDP App Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 25, 2026

Students for Sensible Drug Policy ("SSDP," "we," "us," or "our") provides the SSDP App to support education, advocacy, events, chapter coordination, and community participation. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, role, optional chapter or school affiliation, profile details, and optional profile photo. We also store account settings, legal acceptance timestamps, notification preferences, course progress, quiz results, points, event RSVPs, submitted events, activity reports, lobby day reports, chat messages, moderation reports, user blocks, uploaded report files, and support or deletion requests you submit.

If you submit lobby day or activity reports, you may provide contact information about third parties (such as legislators or their staff), including names, organizations, emails, phone numbers, and business-card photos. This information is linked to your account as the submitter.

If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token and your opt-in/opt-out timestamps. We do not collect precise GPS location through the app.

How We Use Information

We use information to operate and secure the app, manage accounts, provide educational content, track progress and points, support events and RSVP features, deliver optional notifications, allow role-based access, moderate community spaces, process account deletion requests, and improve SSDP programs.

Educational and Sensitive Content

The app includes drug policy, harm reduction, overdose response, advocacy, and related educational content. The app is for educational and organizational purposes only and does not provide medical, legal, or professional advice. The app does not enable the sale, purchase, sourcing, or use of controlled substances.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers that operate the app, including Supabase for database/auth/storage and Expo for push notification delivery. SSDP staff or authorized administrators may access information needed to provide support, moderate content, manage events, review reports, administer programs, and comply with legal or safety obligations.

User Content and Moderation

Chat messages, reports, and uploaded files may be reviewed by SSDP administrators for safety, moderation, abuse prevention, compliance, and support. Users can report messages and block other users in the app.

Retention

We retain account data while your account is active or as needed for operations, security, legal compliance, backups, dispute resolution, and abuse prevention. When you delete your account, the app deletes your account record and user-owned uploaded files. Some records may be retained where necessary for safety, abuse prevention, or legal obligations — including moderation and security records such as reported-message snapshots — and in backups or logs for a limited period. Aggregated or de-identified analytics may be retained.

Your Choices

You can update profile information in the app, opt in or out of push notifications, report or block chat users, and request deletion of your account and associated data. You may also contact SSDP for privacy or data questions.

Children and Age Restrictions

The SSDP App is intended for users who are at least 17 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.

Security

We use technical safeguards including authentication, encrypted connections, private storage for sensitive report files, role-based permissions, and database row-level security. No system is completely secure, and users should avoid sharing sensitive personal information in chat or reports unless necessary.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. If changes are material, we may notify users in the app, by email, or by updating this page.
